The Morant Bay Rebellion was a protest that took place in Jamaica in 1865. It was a response to unfair treatment and harsh living conditions for black people after slavery had been abolished. Why did it happen? After slavery ended in 1838, many former slaves in Jamaica were still very poor and did not have the same rights as white people. They faced discrimination and injustice.
