Aspects of Jamaican and Caribbean Culture by Ethnic Groups 

1. Dance

African Influence: Reggae and Dancehall

European Influence: Quadrille (a type of folk dance)

 

  1. Music

African Influence: Drumming, Reggae

European Influence: Calypso, Soca

3.      3.Language

English: Main language in Jamaica

Patois: A mix of English and African languages

Spanish/French: Spoken in some Caribbean islands

 

  1. Dress

Traditional African Clothing: Bright colors, patterns

Western Styles: T-shirts, jeans, especially among younger people

 

  1. Religion

Christianity: Most common religion

African Traditional Religions: Still practiced by some

Rastafarianism: A unique religion that began in Jamaica

African Influence: Jerk chicken, rice and peas

European Influence: Fish and chips, pastries

 

Similarities and Differences in Caribbean Culture

Similarities:

  • Many Caribbean islands share music styles like reggae and calypso.
  • English is a common language, but with different accents and local words.

Differences:

  • Each island has its own unique dishes and cooking styles.
  • Some islands have strong influences from France or Spain, while others are more influenced by African traditions.

 

Conclusion
